ARRÁBIDA WALKING TRAILS
The Project
The Arrábida Walking Trails network offers a variety of routes to explore the natural beauty and historical richness of the Arrábida Natural Park, spanning the municipalities of Palmela, Sesimbra, and Setúbal.
The network includes eleven short-distance routes (PR), circular or linear, that mostly follow rural paths linking places of natural or historical interest — from villages and traditional trails to beaches and the summit points of the Arrábida range, such as Alto do Formosinho and Alto da Vigia.
Also available is the Long-distance Trail of Arrábida, a 60 kilometres route connecting Setúbal to Cape Espichel which is part of the GR11–E9 long-distance trail, that runs from Cape São Vicente, Portugal, all the way to St. Petersburg, Russia.
The best time of year to enjoy these walks is between September and June, avoiding high temperatures and the peak influx of beach visitors. We, however, recommend checking the specific characteristics of each route as described in this guide.
