Portinho da Arrábida

This route, ideal for a short walk by the sea, is excellent for beginners. It connects Creiro to Portinho da Arrábida and Alpertuche, on a route that, although short, takes us through the various human occupations of Arrábida.

 

The Creiro Archaeological Station bears witness to the presence of one of the oldest industrial complexes for the production of fish products in the Setúbal area, forming part of Roman Cetóbriga, together with other manufacturing units. Lapa de Santa Margarida is a rocky recess that is easily accessible (after 250 steps) and contains a chapel built in the 17th century, which was once the site of various pilgrimages.

The Fort of Santa Maria (17th century), where the Oceanographic Museum is located, houses an enormous collection of biodiversity from the Luiz Saldanha Marine Park, donated by naturalist Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was adapted into a guesthouse by the parents of the Azeitonense poet Sebastião da Gama, known for his strong connection to nature conservation, particularly in Arrábida.

 

 

In terms of nature, the Pedra da Anicha stands out, a rock formation a short distance from the coast, opposite Praia do Creiro, which is home to a dense biodiversity, and the carob trees that accompany us along the way up to the end of the route.​

 

The route ends with the option of visiting Alpertuche (optional branch), a naturalised beach with clear waters.
