LONG-DISTANCE TRAIL
OF ARRÁBIDA
The Arrábida Natural Park (PNA), created in 1976, takes its name from the geomorphological formation known as the Arrábida Range, an area included in the Natura 2000 Network.
Its rugged landscape has given rise to a diversity of microclimates and an extraordinary variety of habitats and plant species, around 1400, representing 40 per cent of all Portuguese flora. The park’s terrestrial fauna is equally remarkable, with some 850 species of invertebrates and vertebrates.
The Professor Luiz Saldanha Marine Park stretches along the coast between Figueirinha and Foz beaches. The complexity and richness of marine habitats in the Arrábida Sea make this area a true biodiversity hotspot, home to more than 2000 recorded species.
Along the Arrábida Trail there are several Total Protection Areas (PT), spaces of exceptional natural value that include unique plant formations with endemic species of local and national flora, and special conservation status birdlife. Human presence is permitted here only for scientific research, environmental monitoring, or surveillance purposes.
Throughout the Arrábida Trail, you’ll find a wide range of accommodation options and be able to enjoy the region’s healthy and flavourful cuisine while experiencing the magnificent landscapes and cultural heritage that define the Arrábida territory across Palmela, Sesimbra, and Setúbal.
Traditional activities such as fishing and the production of the region’s renowned cheese, prized for its unique taste, continue to thrive. Vine growing, rooted in ancient times thanks to the fertile soils and favourable climate, in nowadays internationally acclaimed.
This heritage belongs to you too. Protect it.
