SETÚBAL TRAILS
PR1 Short-distance trail
Slopes of São Filipe
This route, ideal for a short walk and very accessible for beginners, stands out for its excellent views. Few cities, like Setúbal, have the privilege of being located next to a blue river like the Sado and at the foot of an extraordinary mountain range like Arrábida.
The route starts by the river, in Albarquel Urban Park, and winds its way along the paths surrounding the Fort of S. Filipe. Albarquel Urban Park, on the Setúbal riverfront, was inaugurated in 2008 as a result of the rehabilitation of a former campsite. It is currently one of the most popular places for all kinds of outdoor leisure and sports activities related to the sea.
Dating back to the 16th century, the Fort of S. Filipe is a must-see for anyone visiting Setúbal, having once been an important defensive bastion and control point for the city. From its walls, you can enjoy one of the most extraordinary panoramic views of the city and the bay, so we recommend a visit and a stop at the terrace.
