Portinho da Arrábida

This trail, ideal for a short walk by the sea, is excellent for beginners. It connects Creiro with Portinho da Arrábida and Alpertuche, in a path that, albeit short, takes us through the various human settlements in Arrábida.

The Creiro Archaeological Station is witness to one of the oldest industrial complexes for the production of fish products in the Setúbal area, being part of Roman Cetóbriga, along with other manufacturing units. Lapa de Santa Margarida is a rocky cave that can easily be visited (after 250 steps) and houses a chapel built in the 17th century, which used to be visited by many pilgrims.

The Santa Maria Fortress (from the 17th century), where the Oceanographic Museum is located, houses an enormous collection of biodiversity from the Luiz Saldanha Marine Park, donated by the naturalist Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento. It was adapted in the early 20th century to serve as a guesthouse by the parents of the poet from Azeitão, Sebastião da Gama, known for his strong commitment to the protection of nature, particularly of the Arrábida region.

In terms of nature, we highlight the presence of the Pedra da Anicha, a rock formation located near the coast, in front of the Creiro Beach, which shelters a dense biodiversity, and the carob trees that accompany us along the way up to the end of the trail. It ends with the possibility of going to Alpertuche (optional branch), a naturalized beach with clear waters.
